While we are not talking about Spider-Man level success, the titles have brought in a respectable $68.4 million domestically against combined production budgets of $53 million. The Transporter 2 made $43.1 million domestically and wound up with $79.7 million in worldwide receipts against a modest budget of $32 million. Its success was vastly surpassed by its sequel. The Transporter earned $25.3 million against a $21 million budget before becoming a hit on home video. He’s a man’s man and a ladies’ man and he has the most triumphant set of leather driving gloves. He leads a good life.Īlso, should the need arise for him to rescue the child of an ex-girlfriend whose current husband is too much of a eunuch to do it himself, Frank can do that, too. Give him a package and he will deliver it on time…unless he happens to see it’s a hot chick, in which case he’ll rescue her from the bad guys then make her body his amusement park for a long weekend. The point is that we know who Frank Martin is by now.

He’s that type of driver and he has never once uttered a line of dialogue as heinous as “You’re a good driver, bro.” Up yours, Paul Walker! But I digress. Then, he gets out of the car, removes his jacket, and wipes the floor with a group of hired goons, all to the tune of Linkin Park’s Numb. I mean, this guy can get from Point A to Point B in record time. I’m not talking about driving like those pretenders from The Fast and Furious do. His name is Frank Martin, and he’s a driver. Statham looks good but quick cuts keep you from appreciating the moves.

Both Porsche and Oettinger built six-cylinder versions of the T3 Transporter in very small numbers, with the Porsche-built version achieving a top speed around 200 km/h (125 mph).Ī four-wheel drive Syncro model was introduced, premiering in January 1985. The Volkswagen air-cooled boxer engine was supplanted by a water-cooled one – though still rear-mounted – in 1983. The T3, with its front now folding sharply along a horizontal middle axis, instead of the old model's curve, is sometimes called "the wedge" by enthusiasts, to differentiate it from earlier VW "Kombis". The T3 Transporter was one of the last all-new bodied Volkswagen platforms that still used an air-cooled, rear-engine design.Ĭompared to its predecessor, (the T2), the T3 was sturdier and heavier, with a slightly larger, much more square and boxy body, that offered more usable interior space than the original models' rounded front side, roof, and edges. The Volkswagen (Type 2) T3 Transporter, also known as T25 in the UK or VW Vanagon in the United States, was introduced in 1979. Competitors include the Ford Transit, Toyota Hiace and Mercedes-Benz Vito. The Transporter is the best-selling van in history with over 12 million units sold worldwide, and it comprises a gamut of variants including vans, minivans, minibuses, pick-ups and campervans. As part of the T platform, the first three generations are retroactively named T1, T2 and T3. Pre-dating the T platform designations, the first three generations were named Type 2, indicating their relative position to the Type 1, or Beetle. and generations are sequentially named T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6.
